What is Deep Tissue Massage?
“Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.”
Deep Tissue massage is especially helpful for chronically tense areas. Some of the same “classic” strokes, similar to Swedish massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (areas of tender, rigid tissue) in the muscles. Adhesions can cause pain, limited movement, and create inflammation.
Deep tissue massage works by physically manipulating these adhesions to relieve pain and restore the muscle to normal movement.

Will Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?
At some points during the massage, most people find there is usually some discomfort; pain is NOT part of the massage. It is essential to tell the massage therapist if anything is too painful to receive deep tissue*or if you experience any pain outside of your comfort range.
There is usually some stiffness or soreness after a deep tissue massage; the massage therapist may recommend applying ice/heat to the area after the massage.
