What is LaStone Therapy?

LaStone is, at its essence, a stone massage, though instead of hot stones, LaStone sessions use both heated and chilled stones.

Hot Stone vs. LaStone

LaStone Therapy is not the same as a typical hot stone massage, which is a generic phrase to apply to any treatment with hot stones.  LaStone is distinctive as it utilizes 54 warm, 18 chilled, and one room temperature set of quality stones.

The method was developed by Mary Nelson and incorporated more of a spiritual intention than the simple act of heated stones on muscle. If that seems too mysterious, not to worry; it is more of a recognition of nature and appreciation for the body than anything too complicated – here is their take.

“Clinically, it is the application of Geo-Thermal Therapy through the use of deep penetrating heated stones alternated with chilled stones to bring about a chemical release within the body’s systems. It also balances and recharges our souls with Mother Earth and Father Sky as we each perceive their wonder.”

What to Expect in a LaStone Massage Session?

Massage therapy combined with the science of applying heat and cold – potentially, the best of both worlds, resting the mind, recharging energy while also tending to the musculoskeletal body.

Can anyone perform a LaStone massage?

Unlike a hot stone massage, LaStone can only be performed by someone who is certified to be a LaStone therapist. The benefit of this is that you will be getting a highly qualified therapist.

The benefits of a LaStone massage

LaStone treatments are tailor-made for each recipient.

Benefits include:

  • Thermotherapy brings about healing, balance, and rejuvenation; it promotes natural healing responses within the body.
  • The use of warm stones helps to create deep relaxation, promote blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and improves oxygenation throughout the body.
  • The treatment helps to restore balance, alternating between hot and cold flushes the body of toxins, cleanses the lymphatic system, tones muscles, it helps process emotions, and increases energy flow and spiritual connection.
  • The utilization of cold temperatures helps relieve muscle strain, reduce inflammation and scar tissue, and promote mobility.
